Allegra Chernov

Allegra’s favourite book is Ruby Redfort: Look Into My Eyes by Lauren Child. As well as reading, she loves drama because it lets her express herself and her creativity. Allegra is looking forward to being a Conversation Caravan podcaster because she thinks it will be a great opportunity, she loves books and wants to find out more about the authors.

Sholto Foss

While he doesn’t have a favourite book, Sholto’s favourite writer is Terry Pratchett. He loves the Discworld series because they are extremely funny and contain so many outrageous situations and characters that he can't stop reading them. Not surprisingly, his favourite genre is fantasy, and he says this quote from Terry might explain why: “Fantasy is an exercise bicycle for the mind. It might not take you anywhere, but it tones up the muscles that can. Of course, I could be wrong.” Sholto also enjoys singing and playing his cello because they focus his mind, stimulate his brain – and are really fun! Sholto thinks the Conversation Caravan will be an adventure in itself and says he can’t wait to meet the authors and find out how they work.

Isaac Kong

Isaac’s favourite book series is The Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan because he likes the way the author portrays natural history and how he makes it quite realistic by placing the story in the modern world. Isaac loves writing because it lets him use his imagination, which inspires him to create little worlds and stories with just pen and paper. He can’t wait to get inside the Conversation Caravan and “give it a go!”

Michelle Loh

Michelle’s favourite book is Divergent by Veronica Roth because she loves the suspense and detail of Tris’ journey, and because it’s a book about trust, friendship, bravery, fantasy and chance. She plays piano and violin, especially classical, jazz, 21st Century, pop, and baroque music. She also expresses herself through writing because she loves the power of language and words to transport readers to a different land. Her favourite genres to write in are fantasy, mystery, sci-fi, graphic novels and drama. Michelle’s looking forward to exploring and discussing books, poems, authors and stories in the Conversation Caravan, so she can challenge herself, increase her confidence in public speaking and interviewing, and learn from the experience.

Kai Lovel

Kai’s favourite book is Douglas Adams’ The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy because its prominence in British pop culture runs parallel with his ever-present dream to live in England. An avid podcaster, Kai produces and hosts his own show! Kai loves how just a soundscape/audio journey can be a powerful canvas to present people and ideas without unconscious judgements attached to them, that you might have when you see a face or figure. He also loves exploring, whether it’s midnight walks when he is camping, or finding fun, hidden corners of the internet “when I should probably be doing homework”. He loves enriching his understanding of the world. He can’t wait to bring his podcasting skills to the Conversation Caravan because he says he’ll learn so much and form awesome relationships.

Chantrea Marston

Chantrea’s favourite book is Wonder by R.J. Palacio. As well as reading, Chantrea loves drawing because it enables her to use her imagination to really think about what she wants something to look like. She’s excited to join the Conversation Caravan because she thinks it’ll be an amazing opportunity to talk with famous authors and illustrators, and learn from them, and about how they approach their work.

Oliver Morris

Oliver’s favourite book is Ready Player One by Ernest Cline because it shows a glimpse of what the world could look like in 2044. He loves music and writing songs, and especially enjoys the challenge of developing new rhymes. He’s excited about being a Conversation Caravan podcaster because he’s looking forward to meeting authors from around the world, and just being part of the festival.

Jaya Petherwick

What creative outlet do you think best represents you and why?

Jaya loves many books, but her all-time favourite is the Harry Potter series, which she read in Year 3, because it introduced her to a whole new world of literature. She also loves sketching because she finds it relaxing and she can do it anywhere. Jaya especially loves to sketch nature, life drawings and characters that she makes up because she gets to put all her emotions into a piece of art and enjoys seeing the end result. She can’t wait to get in the Conversation Caravan to ask the authors and illustrator questions about their passions, and where their inspirations came from.

Ben Waddell

Ben says his favorite book fluctuates, but at the moment, it’s Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. He also loves filmmaking because he loves to express his thoughts through that medium. Ben is looking forward to joining the Conversation Caravan, so he can meet authors he’s always wanted to meet, and ask them questions he’s always wanted to know the answers to.

Amber Stepatschuk

Amber’s favourite book is The War That Saved My Life by Kimberley Brubaker Bradley. As well as reading, Amber loves art, dance, photography and drama as they enable her to really express herself. Her favourite book genres are mysteries and comedy, and she is currently reading Sophie’s World and Tomorrow When The War Began. Her dad wrote and illustrated a children’s book, OzGood The Sailor, and she had lots of fun discussing the plot and illustrations for the book. She can’t wait to join the Conversation Caravan because she thinks it will be an engaging experience and a chance to meet and speak with the finest authors around. She is also looking forward to meeting the other podcasters, developing her interviewing skills, and contributing her ideas.

Jasper Thomas

Jasper’s favourite books are the Scott Pilgrim series by Bryan Lee O'Malley. He’s always had a way with words and is passionate about writing because he believes words are more powerful than most things, though he says his passion for music is a close second. He can’t wait to join the Conversation Caravan. You might’ve heard Jasper’s voice on the air before as he participated in MYRadio at the Disrupted Festival, which he really enjoyed. Jasper says he loves interviewing people and love talking – a self-confessed chatterbox!
